Noctivis
“Noctivis” is a hand-carved wooden sculpture suspended between shadow and light — a vertical abstract form where darkness becomes part of the structure itself.
Its silhouette changes constantly depending on the angle of view and the direction of sunlight.
In stronger light, the pale grain begins to glow softly against the matte black interior.
In shadow, the sculpture becomes quieter, more architectural, almost monolithic.
The circular opening near the center was not planned.
It emerged naturally during carving — becoming a passage for light, air, and shifting perspective.
There is no single front to this piece.
Every movement around it reveals a different tension between openness and mass, softness and depth.
Process & Material
I carved “Noctivis” intuitively from a single solid piece of wood, without sketches or predefined plans.
The final form developed slowly through direct contact with the material, following the grain, density, resistance, and natural rhythm hidden inside the wood itself.
Some areas were left smooth and calm to preserve the softness of the grain and natural transitions in tone.
Other surfaces were deeply textured and darkened, allowing the sculpture to absorb light instead of reflecting it.
That contrast became the emotional center of the piece.
The black recessed interiors create visual depth and weight, while the outer surfaces remain lighter, quieter, and more open to surrounding light.
Tool marks were intentionally preserved in selected areas.
I wanted the sculpture to retain traces of physical work and contact with the material rather than becoming mechanically perfect.
The surface changes continuously throughout the day.
Morning light reveals subtle grain movement and warm undertones.
In the evening shadow, the sculpture becomes more graphic and structural.
Presence in Space
“Noctivis” brings a strong vertical rhythm into a space without overwhelming it.
The sculpture works quietly with natural light, shadow, and surrounding materials — especially stone, linen, wood, concrete, and calm architectural interiors.
Placed on a pedestal, console, sideboard, or desk, it creates a focused presence that shifts depending on the time of day and viewing angle.
The dark recessed forms absorb light while the lighter outer planes reflect it softly, creating depth without visual excess.
It works naturally in minimalist and Japandi interiors, gallery-like spaces, and contemporary environments that value atmosphere over decoration.
Rather than filling space, the sculpture creates tension and stillness around itself.
Authenticity
This is a one-of-a-kind sculpture — no reproductions.
It is a hand-carved piece entirely in Poland from a single solid piece of wood.
Signed and dated by me.
Finished with natural Osmo matte wax.
No AI renders, CNC machining, or mass production.
All photographs show the real sculpture captured in natural light.
Natural grain movement, texture variations, and subtle imperfections are intentionally preserved as part of the material’s character.
