Unfolding Form — hand-carved abstract wood sculpture in walnut, shaped through an intuitive process where form emerges gradually over time.
It does not open all at once.
Instead, it reveals itself slowly — along the way.
“Unfolding Form” is a one-of-a-kind hand-carved walnut sculpture — a tall, organic structure that rises gently and releases its tension through movement, light, and grain.
From the very first cut, I did not impose a shape.
Instead, I worked intuitively, allowing the wood to lead while responding to its inner rhythm, density, and direction.
I don’t carve wood. I carve what I feel — and the wood responds.
This abstract wood sculpture does not concentrate tension in a single point.
Rather, it carries it upward and gradually lets it go.
At the base, the structure remains grounded and contained.
As it rises, however, it begins to open — not suddenly, but through a sequence of quiet transitions. There is no single moment of release. Instead, it happens continuously, almost unnoticed, until the form fully expands.
In the upper section, the structure reaches outward in multiple directions.
Sharp, blade-like planes catch the light differently from every angle, while deeper openings invite it inward. Because of this, the sculpture shifts constantly — its presence is never fixed, only perceived.
The outer surface remains smooth and calm.
Inside, however, the texture becomes more tactile and direct — a subtle trace of the process itself. In this way, the piece holds a balance between control and instinct.
The walnut carries a striking natural contrast, where pale, luminous planes meet deep, dark veins flowing through the form like quiet lines of time.
The raw-effect Osmo wax preserves this natural lightness, allowing the sculpture to remain open, soft, and responsive to its surroundings.
This is not a fixed object.
Instead, it continues to unfold — with light, with movement, and with presence.
Presence in space
At 109 cm tall, this sculpture holds vertical presence without heaviness.
It works best where it can be approached from multiple sides — on the floor, a low console, or a dedicated pedestal. As the light changes throughout the day, the shadows extend and reshape the form beyond its physical boundaries.
It pairs naturally with travertine, linen, raw plaster, and quiet, architectural interiors.
Minimalist, contemporary, Japandi — but above all, spaces that allow it to breathe.
