“Void Pillar” was not designed in advance.
It emerged slowly — through a process of listening rather than planning. I worked directly with the wood, allowing its grain and resistance to guide each decision, until the central void felt inevitable.

This piece is built around contrast — between mass and absence, darkness and warmth, structure and flow.
The vertical form grounds the space, while the inner opening introduces breath. It changes with light and perspective — at times solid and architectural, at others almost weightless.

The surface is the result of controlled burning, not traditional yakisugi. Selected areas were charred, then finished with natural black Osmo matte wax. This process does not cover the wood — it reveals it.
The texture holds the mark of tools, while the softer planes catch the light, exposing warm tones beneath the black.

I never repeat my work. Each sculpture is shaped once — by hand, through time, focus, and physical effort.

I don’t carve wood. I carve what I feel — and the wood responds.
