Through the Light

“Through the Light” is a hand-carved abstract walnut wood sculpture shaped around openness, movement, and the quiet tension between mass and emptiness.

Light does not simply fall onto this form — it travels through it.
Across curved surfaces, through the central opening, along softened edges, and darker inner transitions hidden deeper inside the wood.

Depending on the angle and time of day, the sculpture changes completely.
Sometimes calm and architectural.
Sometimes almost fluid.

Mounted on a natural travertine base with a brass rod, the piece balances warmth, weight, and lightness in a way that feels both grounded and suspended at once.

Process & Material

I created this sculpture intuitively from a single piece of walnut wood, without sketches or predefined plans.

The form emerged slowly through reaction rather than control.
I followed changes in grain, density, resistance, and natural movement inside the material itself.

While carving, I became especially interested in the relationship between solid surfaces and the space held inside them.
The opening at the center was not designed first —
it appeared gradually as the surrounding forms evolved.

Walnut allows subtle transitions between softness and tension.
Under sunlight, darker grain patterns begin to move across the surface, almost like smoke or flowing fabric.
In shadow, the sculpture becomes quieter and more architectural.

The smooth matte finish was created using natural Osmo wax, preserving the tactile quality of the wood while allowing light to reveal every shift in texture and curvature.

I don’t work from repetition or templates.
Each sculpture becomes a one-time interaction between intuition, material, light, and emotional state.

Presence in Space

“Through the Light” was created as a sculpture that changes the atmosphere rather than dominates a room.

Its open center allows surrounding light and shadow to become part of the composition itself.
The silhouette projected onto nearby walls becomes an extension of the sculpture —
another temporary form shaped by time of day and perspective.

The combination of walnut wood, travertine, and brass creates a quiet balance between organic warmth and restrained elegance.

This piece naturally fits interiors built around calm materials and intentional space:
Japandi interiors, gallery-like environments, stone, linen, raw plaster, soft concrete, natural wood, and changing daylight.

Rather than functioning as decoration, the sculpture behaves more like a presence within the room —
something discovered gradually over time.
