Trace of Fire
“Trace of Fire” is a one-of-a-kind abstract walnut wood sculpture shaped through tension, cracking, fire, and light — an abstract organic form that changes continuously depending on how light moves across its surface.
In strong daylight, warm bronze and brown undertones slowly emerge from the darkened wood.
In softer evening light, the sculpture becomes quieter, deeper, almost entirely shadow-like.
That shifting presence became an essential part of this piece.
I carved this sculpture intuitively from a solid block of walnut wood, without sketches or predefined plans. I always allow the material to guide the process — following grain, resistance, density, and movement as the form gradually reveals itself.
I don’t carve wood. I carve what I feel — and the wood responds.
This particular abstract piece carried natural cracks within the wood from the very beginning. Some appeared slowly during carving, while others deepened during the burning process. I chose not to hide them or artificially fill them. Instead, they became part of the sculpture’s final language — traces of pressure, heat, tension, and time.
The surface was shaped by hand and finished with black Osmo wax, creating subtle transitions between deep shadow and warm reflected tones. Depending on the angle and surrounding light, the sculpture can appear almost black or softly bronze-brown.
There is no single front.
Every side changes the balance between mass, openness, compression, and movement. The central opening allows light to pass through the form, while the asymmetrical wings create tension between expansion and containment at the same time.
The result feels less like an invented object and more like a form uncovered from nature itself.
This sculpture does not dominate a room loudly.
Its presence grows slowly through texture, atmosphere, shadow, and changing light.
Presence in space
“Trace of Fire” works especially well in interiors built around natural materials, restrained composition, and calm architectural light.
Placed near a window or side lighting, the sculpture changes throughout the day — moving between deep matte shadow and warm walnut reflections hidden beneath the dark surface.
It fits naturally into wabi sabi, Japandi, modern organic, contemporary minimalist, and gallery-inspired interiors, combining wood, linen, stone, concrete, and soft neutral tones.
Rather than becoming a decorative accent, the sculpture introduces a quiet sculptural presence that gradually reveals itself over time.
