Dark Expansion

This one-of-a-kind abstract wood sculpture, titled “Dark Expansion”, is hand-carved from solid pear wood and finished in black matte wax.

This sculpture exists — it was not rendered, not reproduced, not made to order. What you see in the photos is exactly what you will receive.

I never begin with a sketch. I begin with wood — and I allow it to lead.
From the first cuts, the form moved outward in two opposing directions. Asymmetrical, unfolding, slightly unpredictable — yet held together by an internal rhythm.

The surface shifts between smooth, flowing planes and deeply carved concave areas. Light moves differently across each of them.
On the outer layers, the black wax reveals subtle brown undertones. Inside the carved recesses, the texture remains intensely dark, absorbing light rather than reflecting it.

There is no single front.
The sculpture changes with perspective — opening, tightening, expanding — depending on where you stand.

Pear wood is dense and refined. The finish does not cover it — it allows the structure to remain visible, present, tactile.

It does not impose meaning. It holds tension.

Presence in space

At 26 cm high, “Dark Expansion” has a strong horizontal presence.
It does not rise — it expands.

The width gives it a sense of movement across space rather than upward.
Placed on a console, shelf, or low pedestal, it draws the eye sideways, not vertically.

Light plays a crucial role.
In softer light, the form feels compact and contained.
In stronger light, the inner recesses deepen, and the contrast between matte black and subtle brown undertones becomes more pronounced.

It works especially well in minimalist and contemporary interiors, where a single object can define the atmosphere.
The dark finish allows it to anchor a space without overwhelming it.

It does not dominate.
But it holds attention.
