Inner Passage
It does not reveal itself all at once.
It unfolds — slowly, through movement held inside stillness.
This one-of-a-kind hand-carved maple sculpture was shaped entirely through an intuitive process. I worked without sketches or predefined form, allowing the grain, density, and resistance of the wood to guide each decision. The shape emerged gradually — not designed, but discovered.
I don’t carve wood. I carve what I feel — and the wood responds.
A subtle spiral runs through the entire form. It rises from the base, twisting upward in a continuous motion that feels almost like a quiet rotation. The sculpture does not move, yet it carries the sensation of movement within.
The exterior remains calm and smooth, uninterrupted. Inside, the form opens — first through a lower passage, then through deeper recesses that rise upward. These inner spaces hold a different energy: more tactile, more raw, preserving the trace of tools and time.
Depending on the light, the sculpture shifts.
In direct light, it becomes structured, almost architectural.
In softer light, it softens — becoming organic, closer to something living.
There is no single front.
Each angle reveals a different rhythm.
Presence in space
“Inner Passage” builds its presence quietly. It does not dominate — but it anchors the space.
The light maple tone and dark granite base create a natural balance.
The vertical form draws the eye upward, while the inner opening invites a closer look.
Placed on a console, pedestal, or sideboard, it changes throughout the day.
Light enters, moves through it, and leaves again — becoming part of the composition.
This is not a decorative object.
It is a form to live with.
