Close Distance
This sculpture no longer stands in my studio.
It was carved from a single piece of maple, shaped slowly and without a predefined plan — guided only by the grain, resistance, and the wood’s quiet direction.
Two vertical forms rise close together.
They almost touch, yet remain separated by a narrow space — a space that becomes the center of the entire composition.
This is where the tension lives.
The surface moves between opposites.
Smooth, softly reflective planes meet deeply textured, charred areas. Light does not behave evenly here — it travels, settles, and disappears depending on the angle.
I carve intuitively.
I don’t follow drawings or repeat forms. Each piece emerges through time, attention, and physical work with the material.
I don’t carve wood. I carve what I feel — and the wood responds.
This sculpture has now found its place in a new space, where light and shadow will continue to reshape it throughout the day.

Each sculpture I create is unique and never repeated.
One of the collectors described it as:
“From all sides it reveals a carefully composed tension and harmony — opposites that unite to form a whole.”
