Inner Tension
It does not release the light.
It holds it.
This one-of-a-kind hand-carved apple-wood sculpture is built around a simple tension between openness and resistance, between what is revealed and what remains held within.
I did not begin with a plan.
I worked directly with the wood, allowing its density, resistance, and internal direction to guide each movement. The form emerged slowly from a single block — shaped through carving, burning, and sanding, step by step, without interruption.
I don’t carve wood. I carve what I feel — and the wood responds.
The structure opens deeply, yet never fully gives itself away.
Light enters the form, travels through it, and settles inside the dark, textured core. It doesn’t escape — it gathers.
The outer surfaces remain smooth, quiet, controlled.
Inside, the material becomes raw, darker, more tactile — a record of pressure, heat, and time.
This contrast does not create conflict.
It creates presence.
As the light shifts, the sculpture changes with it.
Shadows deepen, then soften. Edges appear, then dissolve. The form reveals itself gradually — never all at once.
This abstract wood sculpture does not ask to be understood.
It asks to be experienced.
This is not an object that fills space.
It defines it.
Presence in space
At 39 cm tall, “Inner Tension” holds a quiet but decisive presence.
Placed on a console, pedestal, or within an architectural interior, it begins to structure the surrounding space. The wall behind it becomes part of the composition — receiving and reflecting the shifting shadows cast by the open form.
It works especially well in interiors built on restraint — where materials such as stone, wood, microcement, or linen remain visible and uninterrupted.
The sculpture does not compete.
It anchors.
Over time, it becomes a point of return.
Something you notice each day differently.
Not louder. Just deeper.
