Memory Lines
Memory Lines is a one-of-a-kind hand-carved ikebana vase made from solid aged cherry wood.
It is a low, sculptural vessel shaped by grain, cracks, light, and the quiet memory of the tree.
The form opens outward like a small landscape. From within it, a second, more contained shape begins to rise.
These two forms do not compete with each other. They remain in balance — one carrying the other, one slowly emerging from the other.
Process & Material
I created this piece intuitively, without sketches, templates, or a predefined design.
I was not searching for a finished shape, I was following the next movement — the next line, the next curve, the next response from the wood.
Cherry wood has a very particular warmth. In this piece, the grain became one of the most important parts of the sculpture. The lines not only decorate the surface. They travel through the form, rise along the edges, gather in some places, and open quietly in others.
The wood was already aged and had natural cracks. I chose not to hide them. Instead, I preserved them and filled them with a light-toned resin mixture, allowing these pale lines to remain visible.
I do not see them as imperfections.
They are memories.
The grain records the time of growth. The resin-filled lines record what happened later — drying, tension, change, transformation. Together, they create a quiet dialogue between the tree’s life and the new form it has become.
Smooth areas meet more textured surfaces, where traces of handwork remain visible. Light moves gently across the outer curves, while deeper recesses hold shadow and reveal the physical process of carving.
Presence in Space
Memory Lines brings a calm, grounded presence into a room.
Because of its low and expansive silhouette, it does not behave like a traditional vase. It rests close to the surface, almost like a small wooden landscape — quiet, tactile, and attentive to light.
Depending on the angle, the relationship between the outer form and the inner rising shape changes. The grain lines and pale resin-filled cracks become more visible in certain light, then soften again into the warm tone of the cherry wood.
It can hold a single branch, dried flowers, seed pods, or a minimalist ikebana arrangement. It can also stand alone as a sculptural object.
This piece belongs naturally in interiors shaped by calm materials — wood, stone, linen, concrete, natural light — and in spaces inspired by wabi sabi, Japandi, and organic modern aesthetics.

This is a one-of-a-kind hand-carved piece.
It was created from solid aged cherry wood sourced in Poland. The natural cracks were intentionally preserved and highlighted as part of the wood’s history.
