Together as One — Hand-Carved Walnut Wood Sculpture
Together as One is a one-of-a-kind abstract walnut wood sculpture carved from a single solid block of sustainably sourced walnut. Three organic forms rise together, each with its own quiet presence, while remaining inseparable from the whole.
Rather than describing specific figures, the sculpture leaves space for personal interpretation. It may suggest closeness, family, partnership, or simply the balance that exists when separate elements naturally belong together.
Process & Material
I never begin with a drawing.
Every sculpture starts with the wood itself, and this walnut block already contained an extraordinary rhythm of grain, colour, and natural transitions. As I carved, I responded to what the material revealed instead of following a fixed design.
The three forms slowly emerged from one continuous mass. Instead of separating them, I allowed narrow passages, openings, and flowing surfaces to preserve their shared origin.
Each curve was shaped by hand using handheld carving tools before being carefully refined and sanded. The sculpture is finished only with matte natural Osmo hardwax oil, allowing the walnut to retain its authentic colour, texture and depth while remaining pleasant to touch.
As daylight changes throughout the day, the soft surfaces gather light differently, revealing new transitions between the warm heartwood and lighter sapwood.
Presence in Space
Together as One brings quiet movement rather than visual weight.
From one angle, the sculpture appears compact and unified. A few steps later, hidden openings begin to appear, allowing light to travel through the form and cast changing shadows around it.
Its organic silhouette complements Japandi, wabi-sabi and contemporary gallery interiors, where natural materials and generous light become part of the experience.
Rather than dominating a room, it creates a calm focal point that slowly rewards repeated viewing.
