Twin Presence – A quiet dialogue between two forms
Twin Presence is a one-of-a-kind hand-carved walnut sculptural vase exploring the subtle relationship between two forms standing side by side. Separated by a narrow passage yet carved from a single block of solid wood, they suggest both individuality and connection.
The composition is calm, balanced, and quietly architectural. Light settles into the space between the forms, revealing new lines and gentle contrasts as the viewpoint changes. A discreet glass insert allows a living branch or a single flower to become part of the sculpture, while the piece remains complete even when displayed on its own.
More than a functional object, Twin Presence is an invitation to slow down and notice the quiet dialogue between material, light, and space.
Process & Material
I never begin with a finished design.
Each sculpture and sculptural vase grows through an intuitive conversation with the wood. Rather than following sketches, I respond to the grain, density, and natural movement hidden inside every piece of timber.
Twin Presence was carved from a single block of solid European walnut. As the form gradually emerged, the wood revealed two distinct yet connected volumes, separated by a narrow opening that became the heart of the composition.
Every curve was shaped by hand, allowing the flowing grain to guide the direction of each cut. Broad, softly rounded surfaces transition into crisp edges, creating a balance between softness and tension. As natural light moves across the sculpture, warm walnut tones shift from honey gold to deep chocolate brown, revealing the unique character of the wood.
The surface was patiently hand-sanded until perfectly smooth and finished with a natural matte hardwax oil that protects the wood while preserving its tactile quality and natural appearance.
A removable glass tube is discreetly integrated inside the form, allowing fresh flowers while keeping the wood safely protected from moisture.
Presence in Space
Whether displayed empty or accompanied by a single branch, Twin Presence brings a quiet sculptural presence into a room.
Its restrained silhouette feels at home in gallery-like interiors as well as in Japandi, Scandinavian, and contemporary spaces where natural materials, stone, linen, and soft daylight become part of the composition.
Rather than dominating its surroundings, the vase slowly reveals itself. Shadows gather within the central opening, the walnut changes character throughout the day, and every viewpoint offers a different relationship between the two forms.
It is a piece that invites repeated observation, rewarding stillness rather than demanding attention.
