Fluens

Fluens is a hand-carved walnut sculpture exploring continuous movement through layered organic forms. As light moves across its flowing surfaces, the sculpture reveals new rhythms and shifting relationships among openness, balance, and connection. Now part of a private collection, it remains in the gallery as a record of a unique dialogue between artist and wood.

Fluens – Flow Carved into Solid Walnut

Fluens is a one-of-a-kind abstract walnut sculpture shaped as a continuous movement rather than a fixed form.

Layer after layer, the silhouette seems to expand outward, yet every element remains connected to the whole. Light settles between the flowing planes, revealing new depths and subtle shadows as you move around the sculpture. Nothing here feels static. Every viewpoint offers another rhythm, another balance, another quiet conversation between openness and cohesion.

It is a sculpture about movement that never loses its centre.

Process & Material

I never begin with a finished design.

Every sculpture starts with a single block of wood and the willingness to listen instead of control. The grain, the walnut’s density, hidden colour variations, and unexpected changes within the timber gradually suggest the next decision.

While carving Fluens, I found myself following one flowing line after another. Each new plane seemed to lift away from the previous one without ever becoming separate. The form grew slowly, almost like layers shaped by water or wind over time.

Everything is carved by hand using handheld power tools. Every transition, edge and curve is refined patiently before the surface receives several coats of natural matte Osmo wax. The finish protects the wood while preserving its authentic texture and allowing light to travel softly across the flowing surfaces.

No sketches.
No templates.
No repetition.

Only one conversation between artist and wood that can never happen in the same way again.

Presence in Space

Fluens changes with the room around it.

Morning light emphasizes its gentle transitions. Evening light deepens the shadows hidden between the layered forms, making the sculpture appear more architectural and dramatic.

Rather than dominating a space, it introduces a sense of quiet movement. It encourages the eye to travel slowly across the surfaces, discovering new relationships between light, shadow, and volume.

Its organic geometry sits naturally within contemporary interiors inspired by Japandi, wabi-sabi and gallery-like minimalism, where natural materials, stone, linen and wood become part of the same visual language.

Because the sculpture has no single front, it rewards being viewed from every angle.
