Unfurl
Unfurl is a one-of-a-kind abstract walnut wood sculpture, hand-carved from a single solid piece of European walnut.
Its form seems to open slowly — rising, widening, unfolding outward while remaining firmly grounded.
It has movement, but no urgency. The curves carry the eye from one side to another, while the weight of the walnut keeps the sculpture quiet and balanced.
Light completes the form. As it moves across the smooth surface, different planes appear and disappear, revealing the carving’s depth and the grain’s warmth.
Process & Material
I began Unfurl without a drawing or a prepared design.
This is how most of my sculptures begin: with a piece of wood and the first decision.
From there, I work intuitively. Each cut changes what becomes possible next. I follow the grain, the resistance of the walnut and the relationships that begin to appear between mass, curve and space.
Gradually, the form opened.
Some areas became thinner and more extended, while others remained heavier, giving the sculpture the stability it needed. I continued removing wood until the different movements began to feel connected rather than separate.
The sculpture was carved by hand from one solid block of European walnut, then patiently refined and sanded until the surface became exceptionally smooth.
This smoothness is not intended to erase the character of the material. Instead, it allows the natural walnut grain, subtle shifts of colour, and carved geometry to become more visible as the light changes.
A natural wax finish deepens the wood gently while preserving its tactile quality.
Presence in Space
Unfurl does not need a separate pedestal or base to establish its presence.
It rests directly on the surface, and from that grounded point the form begins to expand upward and outward.
Seen from different angles, its balance changes. One view feels open and flowing; another reveals more weight, shadow, and tension between the carved planes.
Natural light makes these changes especially visible.
Placed in a quiet interior, among wood, stone, linen, concrete or other natural materials, the sculpture becomes less an object of decoration and more a point of visual stillness — something the eye can return to.
Its presence is subtle, but it changes with the room throughout the day.

Free shipping is available throughout the European Union.
For collectors in the United States, the sculpture is shipped DDP, with customs duty prepaid.
For other destinations outside the European Union, the sculpture is declared as an original work of art under HS 9703. Local taxes or other destination charges, where applicable, remain the responsibility of the recipient.
Each sculpture is carefully protected in reinforced packaging and shipped with tracking and insurance.
A VAT invoice is included where applicable.
