Convergence

Convergence is a hand-carved walnut sculpture shaped through patience rather than speed.

Carved from a single piece of walnut, it brings together contrasting forms, natural colour, light and open space into one quiet composition. From every angle, the sculpture reveals a different relationship between its flowing volumes, yet it always remains unmistakably whole.

Process & Material

Some sculptures emerge quickly. This one asked for time.

I returned to this piece over many weeks, carving for a while before leaving it untouched, only to see it differently when I came back. The walnut itself set that rhythm. Dense, hard, and exceptionally stable, it resisted haste and encouraged careful decisions instead.

Like all of my sculptures, Convergence was created without sketches or predetermined plans. I never begin with a finished image. Every cut responds to the one before it, allowing the grain, proportions, and natural character of the wood to guide the next step.

What fascinates me most about walnut is that its colour is never static. As the sculpture is viewed from different angles, warm ivory, soft cappuccino tones, rich browns, and dark flowing grain reveal themselves one after another. The colour becomes part of the sculpture’s movement, changing alongside shifting light and shadow throughout the day.

The sculpture is built from a sequence of organic forms that appear complete on their own yet naturally belong together. Depending on where you stand, they may suggest unfolding leaves, the quiet presence of a human figure, or simply an abstract rhythm. I prefer not to define these associations. Every viewer completes the story differently.

The silky hand-finished surfaces contrast with deep openings where light settles into shadow, giving the sculpture a quiet sense of movement despite its stillness.

Presence in Space

Rather than dominating a room, Convergence gradually becomes part of it.

Placed in natural light, its changing walnut tones and flowing silhouettes create subtle variations throughout the day. The openings allow light to travel through the sculpture while the granite base anchors the composition with calm stability.

Its presence feels particularly at home in contemporary interiors, Japandi spaces, gallery-inspired environments and interiors built around natural materials such as wood, linen, stone and concrete. It invites observation rather than demanding attention, rewarding slower looking with continually changing perspectives.

Authenticity

Convergence is a one-of-a-kind sculpture, hand-carved from a single piece of sustainably sourced walnut.

It is signed by the artist and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

The sculpture is finished with Osmo matte hardwax oil, which preserves the wood’s natural character without creating a glossy surface.

Every photograph shows the actual sculpture in natural light. No AI renders, digital visualisations or replicated editions are ever used.
