Elaren

Elaren is a one-of-a-kind hand-carved walnut sculpture shaped through intuition rather than design.
Flowing forms, open spaces, and shifting light reveal a composition that quietly changes from every viewpoint, inviting slow observation and a personal interpretation.

Elaren

“Elaren” is a one-of-a-kind abstract walnut-wood sculpture in which movement seems to pause for a single quiet moment. Hand-carved from solid European walnut, its flowing form shifts gently with every change of light, revealing new relationships between mass, space, and shadow.

Nothing in this sculpture feels fixed. Every angle suggests another rhythm, another balance between openness and solidity. It invites slow observation rather than immediate interpretation.

The warm grain of the walnut carries its own history through the flowing silhouette, allowing the natural character of the wood to remain present beneath every curve.

Process & Material

Like all of my sculptures, Elaren was never drawn before it existed.

No sketches were waiting to be followed. The form emerged gradually through direct conversation with the walnut itself. Each cut revealed another possibility, while the grain suggested where the sculpture wanted to become lighter, where it preferred to remain strong, and where an opening could allow light to travel through the form.

Working this way requires more patience than control. I remove material slowly, responding to the wood’s changing structure rather than forcing a predetermined design.

Inside the sculpture, subtle tool marks remain intentionally visible. They preserve the memory of carving and create a quiet contrast with the smooth exterior surfaces, which gently reflect natural light without losing the tactile presence of hand-shaped wood.

The walnut itself becomes an active part of the composition. Dark mineral lines, changing grain patterns, and natural variations remain untouched, allowing the sculpture to retain the authenticity of the tree from which it was created.

Presence in Space

Elaren changes continuously throughout the day.

Morning light emphasizes its broad, flowing planes. As the sun moves, shadows begin to travel through the openings, creating entirely new silhouettes on surrounding walls. Rather than occupying space, the sculpture gradually becomes part of it.

Its organic proportions feel equally at home within contemporary interiors, Japandi-inspired spaces, gallery settings or architecture built around natural materials such as stone, linen, oak, and concrete.

The sculpture does not ask to dominate a room.

It introduces a quieter rhythm that encourages the eye to slow down.

Authenticity

Every sculpture I create is carved entirely by hand from solid wood.

Elaren is a one-of-a-kind artwork and will never be reproduced.
