Folded Presence

Folded Presence to ręcznie rzeźbiona abstrakcyjna rzeźba z litego drewna orzecha włoskiego. Nakładające się na siebie płaszczyzny prowadzą światło przez wnętrze formy, odsłaniając coraz to nowe relacje między drewnem, cieniem i przestrzenią. Każdy obrót ukazuje inną kompozycję, zachowując spokojną, architektoniczną równowagę.

Quiet Tension Shaped in Walnut

Folded Presence is a one-of-a-kind hand-carved walnut sculpture that explores the relationship between folded forms, light, and space.

Its layered planes rise in a quiet vertical rhythm, creating a sense of balance that feels both grounded and open. Rather than revealing itself all at once, the sculpture invites the eye to move slowly through its changing surfaces, where every shift of light uncovers another subtle relationship between wood, shadow and form.

There is no single front. Every viewpoint offers a different experience while remaining part of the same harmonious composition.

Process & Material

I never begin with sketches or fixed plans.

Every sculpture starts with the wood itself.

Before making the first cut, I spend time observing the proportions, the direction of the grain, and the natural character hidden within the timber. The sculpture gradually emerges through an intuitive dialogue with the material, allowing each decision to grow naturally from the previous one.

Folded Presence was hand-carved from a single piece of solid walnut. As the form evolved, layered surfaces began to fold gently around one another, creating spaces where light could settle and quietly transform the sculpture throughout the day.

The natural colour variations of the walnut, together with its darker veins and flowing grain, became an essential part of the composition rather than details to conceal.

After carving, the sculpture was carefully hand-sanded over many hours before receiving several thin coats of natural matte Osmo wax. The finish protects the wood while preserving its tactile quality and allowing the grain to remain fully visible beneath changing light.

Presence in Space

Some sculptures define a room through scale.

Others through silence.

Folded Presence belongs to the second kind.

Its calm vertical rhythm creates an atmosphere rather than demanding attention. Light moves gently across the folded planes, while the recessed surfaces cast soft shadows that change throughout the day.

Placed within interiors inspired by Japandi, wabi-sabi or contemporary minimalism, the sculpture naturally complements materials such as stone, linen, oak, concrete and natural plaster.

The polished black granite base provides a quiet visual anchor, allowing the warmth of the walnut to remain the centre of attention while reinforcing the sculpture’s sense of balance.
